Eat Right Foundation course is a programme by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) with an aim to spread education and raise awareness on eating right - eating healthy and eating safe among the existing and future policy makers and prepare them to be role models for the society.
This Course is for Officer Trainees of the All India Services viz the Indian Administrative Service, the Indian Police Service & the Indian Forests Service; the Indian Foreign Service and various Central Services (Group-‘A’).
Run once a year usually from September to December, it marks the commencement of training of candidates selected by the UPSC. As the Officer trainees are fresh entrants, the focus is on familiarizing them with core structure and functioning for FSSAI. The course also introduces the trainees the food to the Eat Right India movement, this would include topics on food safety and security, nutrition and public health, sustainable food production and promoting local and regional economy. Since food touches the lives of everyone, everywhere, an effective and collaborative approach in the food sector offers a unique opportunity to contribute to ‘ease of living’. Further, this would encourage out-of-the-box ideas and innovative efforts that would become the hallmark of future governance models characterized by transparency and performance in service delivery.

The Foundation Course is designed to serve the following objectives:

  • Orient Officer Trainees to structure and function of FSSAI
  • Generate awareness about the Eat Right India movement and its scope within the Civil Services

Course Structure

The Eat Right Foundation Course, spread across fifteen weeks, would comprise of three sessions of one hour each, backed by weekly activities (Annexure 2). The sessions will be addressed by subject matter experts on each domain of eating right. At the end of the course the participants would be divided in groups, they would be required to present how policy makers can make India follow Eat Right.

Eat Right Champion

The Eat Right Champion Award will recognize participants following the true spirit of Eating right. Individuals would be evaluated by a special jury and will be felicitated as Eat Right Champions.
